You will hike on foot, guided by an armed ranger, through a scenic route that winds along the eastern rim of the crater. The trail leads through the lush mountain forest to the caldera below which is home to a large lake, populated by flamingos and other species of waterfowl. From the rim, you can see the volcanic cone of Ol Doinyo Lengai to the northeast, Lake Natron and, on a clear day, even snow-capped Kilimanjaro. In addition, during the steep descent to the crater floor, you will have the chance to spot the numerous wildlife, including buffalo, hyenas, blue monkeys, elephants and a wide variety of birds.
